Starting to Plan Before Booking the Venue:

Before you can really start the bulk of the planning, securing a venue is really important. It is worth bearing in mind that if you have your heart set on a certain place, you may face a large waiting list to be able to use it. Many venues offer their own catering and decorating services, so think whether you want to do all of this yourself. If you can find a place that takes care of a lot of the work for you, it will save you a lot of stress.

Getting Stuck on a Specific Date:

If you and your partner have a rough idea of the date, that is great, however, it will all depend on your venue’s availability. If you can be flexible around your date you will make it a lot easier to secure a venue. Think about the practicalities of certain times of the year. Winter weddings mean you might get a cheaper price, but you will also have less daylight and worse weather. As soon as you have your date, it is time to send out your invites. Think carefully about your guest list and how big an occasion this will be.

Sticking to One Wedding Dress Style:

This is probably the part that excites women the most – the wedding dress shopping. Some women have a defined idea of the sort of dress they want, while other women have absolutely no idea. Even if you have an idea what you want, it is worth trying on different styles. You may find a style that you would otherwise have overlooked. New York Bride of Raleigh has a huge selection of beautiful dresses for the bride and her bridesmaids.

Mixing Too Many Themes

Many people choose a theme for their wedding. They then weave this theme into the day’s events. For instance, things like the seating chart may reflect your theme with the tables being named accordingly. Your party favours and invites can use the theme too. To choose your theme, think about the things you both love or the things that brought you together but keep it to a minimum or you risk your wedding looking too busy and mismatched.

Music Is Just As Important:

If you want to have a great party, you need to think about the music you want to play. If you are choosing a live band, it is worth speaking to them well in advance to book them. Many live bands get booked up a year in advance, so act quickly. Alternatively you can think about getting a DJ or even hooking an iPad up to a speaker. You should also think about your dance floor space. When the dance floor is too large, it can lose a bit of atmosphere. Keep in mind you guest list and think about the number of people who will be up and dancing. The music and dancing at the reception is sometimes what guests look most forward to.

Forgetting about the Honeymoon:

This is the most fun party of the planning so make it fun. The honeymoon is totally for you and your partner, and not your guests. Think about somewhere you and your partner have always wanted to go and don’t get carried away with friends and family’s suggestions. Where would be special for you?
