Celebrating Mom: Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day is coming up, so it’s time to stop and share a little extra TLC with those who raised us best, and somehow always managed to stay one step ahead of us.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! We know you come in all shapes and sizes, with likes and dislikes all your own, so to avoid the weeklong guilt trip from bringing her the same generic card and flowers as last year, it’s time to pick out a gift for your mother that is all her own, and maybe we can help.

THE MOMPRENEUR
(or MOM-ON-THE-GO)

Whether your mom spends her 9 to 5 in the office or works from home, every mom needs to refuel her battery now and again, and stay stylish while doing it. Here are a few things to help her succeed and stay recharged, even while asleep.

Side Note: I’ve recently fell head over heels for cork products at the recent Green Living Show. 100% eco-friendly, they are as durable and supple as leather stain, scratch and water resistant, and not to mention look so cool and are a total conversation starter.

THE HOSTESS

I‘m always amazed at how together my mom is when company comes over, whether she’s hosting just another couple or cooking for 20. Help her never have to run to the store again for last-minute forgotten herbs or struggle with baking conversions. And, who doesn’t love a fabulous post-dinner espresso.

THE SENTIMENTALIST

For the mom who always says, “please don’t buy me anything,” but secretly loves gifts from the heart. Try these, out of the box ideas to score some extra brownie points. You’re never too old or a journal or take a family selfie! And BTW, I have been crazy obsessing over the Sony smartphone lens-style camera (hint, hint).

I'm Lisa, a real born and bred Torontonian in every sense of the word. I'm a PR practitioner by day with a fabulous client list, at a very cool boutique firm in the core with a view of the city that can make anyone want to move here. I have a mild to moderate hat obsession, and you’ll usually find me searching the city for the next big chef, and rarely without a fashion or décor magazine in my purse. Before PR, I was a travel writer/editor/photographer, and spent most of my time travelling the world and bringing my stories back here. The rest of the time I spent indulging in the city's untapped culinary scene as Post City Magazine's main restaurant photographer. But, no matter where I am in the world, nothing beats coming home. That's why I've spent the last few years planting my roots here, moving from Toronto’s uber-chic west side to the heart of Greek Town in a modern Victorian semi (a.ka. my lifelong décor project), with my husband and super-stylish son. Yes, I'm one of those moms, the one who won't give up her sense of style post-baby bump; and why should I?! I aspire to have my cake and eat it too - I am Italian after all. And, now why my 2-year-old in tow, I can bring him along for the ride.
