Tips for Decorating Your Wedding Reception Venue

When you are due to get married soon, you probably have a very clear and detailed picture in your mind of what your wedding dress will look like. You can probably see the color choices for your bridesmaid, and you may even have fully visualized your wedding cake. One thing that is harder to imagine is how your reception venue may look. The wedding ceremony often takes place in a different building and may be dressed by the owners. The reception is where you and all your guests will be spending the entire evening, yet few venues dress the room on your behalf. Here are some tips for decorating your wedding reception venue.

If you are thinking about how you want the reception room to look, you may have a hundred different ideas in mind, but no clear way of bringing them all together. There are plenty of photos to look at on the internet, but pulling all the bits and pieces out that you like could take quite a long time. The easiest way to approach this task is to take a list, and then have a creative friend help put it all together on the day:

Tables

These are often supplied bare by the venue owners. They are usually circular. You may need to hire the table linen. This gives you the chance to order a specific under layer color of your choosing. You will also need to speak to your florist about the centerpieces, and think about any wedding favors to be placed on the tables too. You could ask the stationer who prepared your invitations to also manage the seating cards. Order some Wedding chair covers for this venue too.

Walls

Most venues get grumpy at the thought of you tapping into their electric supply, but they probably won’t say no to some LED fairy lights. Most people forget that their reception will continue after the sun has gone down, so having this soft, magical lighting effect can be very romantic for a wedding. These lights can come as a net effect for you to hang on walls or posts. You can also hang them from the Top Table too. If your budget can’t stretch to fresh flower sashes and garlands, the artificial variety doesn’t look bad at all. There are plenty more choices this way, whatever the season. Wrap ribbon or craft wire around them to help glam them up a bit and make them look chic.

Ceiling

Some reception venue owners will not allow you to attach anything to the ceiling. However, you can fill balloons with helium to float them to the ceiling. Hang messages of love (like love heart candies) from their ribbons so people can find a balloon for each other. You may need a couple hundred, so this idea isn’t cheap, but the effect is wonderful. Before you book the venue, ask to see a typical event so you can get an idea of the lighting they use after dark. It may help you to decide if you need to use candles on the table.
