Earning While I Shop with Scotiabank

Earning While I Shop with Scotiabank

It’s officially fall, so you know what that means – it’s time for pumpkin spice lattes and shopping for new cozy knits!

As I briefly talked about my new appreciation for Scotiabank’s Moneyback debit card here, I’ve gained a new found love for the moneyback feature so that I can feel as though I’m accumulating savings while I spend! And that’s just by doing my day-to-day things.

For every busy weekend, I like to use the trusty Moneyback calculator to help put together the amount that I could be getting back by doing simple things like picking up my favourite drink at Starbucks to enjoying a weekend filled with shopping, dining and more.

Not to mention that the calculator is a great way to create a budget for yourself – which comes in handy when I want to splurge on big items. The resistance is harder than I like to admit!

Like most mornings, I begin my day with a tea or coffee. It’s amazing how far 1% cash back can go when you are like me and grab a morning drink nearly everyday!

Drink in hand, it just isn’t a weekend without going to my favourite local flower shop to pick up a few bouquets for the week and of course, I reach for my Scotiabank Moneyback debit card to do all the work. I’m not typically one who carries a lot of cash around, so it’s great knowing that I benefit by purchasing everyday items.

On weekends I like to splurge and dine out as often as possible (without breaking the bank of course) so on a typical weekend in Toronto, I’m searching for a great spot to enjoy food and drinks. Brunch is a necessity, so I stop by one of my favourite restos for some breakfast and mimosas. That means I’m getting 1% money back just by going to eat throughout the week. It sure does make spending the money worthwhile.

It’s incredibly rare for me to have a week that I don’t shop. I’m no shopaholic but planning to move in the next few months has me scoping out the best home stores in downtown Toronto to find cute knick knacks and smaller décor items.

Home décor shopping then slowly turns into clothes and shoes, and of course my last shopping stop of the day is Bloor Street. Aritzia, Roots, Gap and Holt Renfrew on the same street can be bad news, but as I carry that little card of magic, it makes the spending on clothes and shoes more of an investment, knowing that I get to take a percentage of that as cash back.

After freshening up, it’s a quick change into my go-to little black dress (LBD0 and it’s off to dinner. Shopping can sure work up an appetite, so it’s appetizers, wine and a main course for friends and me. Since my favourite thing to do is go out for dinner and drinks, this is where I see how far the moneyback can go using the Scotiabank Moneyback debit card.
