Holiday Gold Made Simple DIY

Gold ball DIY
Getting into the Holiday and DIY spirit I really embraced the idea of gold decor this season. From my table top to my tree, and even on my gift wrap, you can tell that my Holiday outlook is golden.

But, rather than buying new accent pieces for my home this year I thought it would be fun to get a bit creative and make my own. The inspiration came right from my home office and a pile of thumb tacks on my desk.

Turns out my little project was not only really simple, but quite relaxing, and easy enough that my hubbie pitched in to make his own golden ball.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Foam balls/cones of various sizes or a ring for a wreath (if you are really adventurous)
Gold thumb tacks (and plenty of them!)
Moss (optional/decorative)
Ribbon

Note: you can find all of these items at your local dollar store

Step 1: Find a nice comfy spot on the couch and get comfortable, as this may take a while.
Step 2: Start by inserting the tacks in a straight line, wrapping around the orb (I found this gave my an easy  reference point to work from in both directions)

3
Step 3: Add another line of tacks, overlapping the previous one and repeat, working away from your original line outwards.
(The overlapping of the tacks is essential, as it prevents too much of the white foam from coming through)

4
Step 4: Repeat, repeat, repeat!

5
Step 5: Grab a bowl or plate from your kitchen (I chose silver to compliment the gold) and add a bit of decorative moss and/or ribbon to complete the look.

I'm Lisa, a real born and bred Torontonian in every sense of the word. I'm a PR practitioner by day with a fabulous client list, at a very cool boutique firm in the core with a view of the city that can make anyone want to move here. I have a mild to moderate hat obsession, and you’ll usually find me searching the city for the next big chef, and rarely without a fashion or décor magazine in my purse. Before PR, I was a travel writer/editor/photographer, and spent most of my time travelling the world and bringing my stories back here. The rest of the time I spent indulging in the city's untapped culinary scene as Post City Magazine's main restaurant photographer. But, no matter where I am in the world, nothing beats coming home. That's why I've spent the last few years planting my roots here, moving from Toronto’s uber-chic west side to the heart of Greek Town in a modern Victorian semi (a.ka. my lifelong décor project), with my husband and super-stylish son. Yes, I'm one of those moms, the one who won't give up her sense of style post-baby bump; and why should I?! I aspire to have my cake and eat it too - I am Italian after all. And, now why my 2-year-old in tow, I can bring him along for the ride.
