Lemon

Did you know that lemon is one of the very best natural treatments for aiding a clear complexion? This is because the acid in lemon can remove dead skin cells keeping your skin looking brighter. Plus, the vitamin C found in a lemon is excellent for helping to reduce dark marks on the skin, like scars for example.

To use lemon to clear your complexion, apply freshly squeezed lemon juice all over your face and neck. After 10 minutes use a gentle flannel and warm water to wash the lemon juice off.

For a lemon-based exfoliator, mix two parts fresh lemon juice with two parts sugar and apply to your face. Gently massage the mixture over your face, scrubbing in a circular motion. Rub your face for around a minute, and then leave the mixture on for another 8 minutes, before washing it off.

To keep your skin feeling great, use this natural exfoliator once a week. For other natural exfoliator, ideas have a look at the 10awesome things website.

Honey

You may not realise it, but honey is an excellent moisturiser that can be used to keep your skin feeling smooth and supple. It also has amazing antibacterial properties, so can help keep spots at bay.

To moisturise your skin, apply good quality honey to it and let it dry. Once the honey has dried rinse it off with warm water. Honey works well as a moisturiser because it is naturally high in water, meaning that it leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

If you would prefer to apply a less sticky mixture to your skin, you can mix two parts honey with one part milk. Once you have mixed these together, add in one part flour and mix it all together until a smooth paste forms, then apply the mixture to your face and neck and leave it on for 15 minutes, before washing off with warm water.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is one of the most beneficial remedies for the skin. Not only does it have antibacterial effects, allowing it to kill acne-causing bacteria, it also has anti-inflammatory effects. This means that it can be used to help calm irritated skin, as well as helping to heal marks and scars. Aloe vera also acts as an excellent moisturiser.

Snap the end of an aloe vera leaf off of your aloe vera plant and use a clean finger to scrape the gel from inside it. Use your finger to apply the gel onto your face, let it dry, and then wash it off with warm water.

If you notice spots or blemishes appearing, you can also apply the inner leaf gel directly to the affected area. This will kill any bacteria and help to reduce the size and inflammation of the spot. This doesn’t need to be washed off. Re-apply two or three times a day, until the spot or blemish disappears.

Papaya

An excellent natural remedy for smoother and clearer skin is papaya. It is also great for scars, due to its natural bleaching abilities.

Papaya has an enzyme called papain in it; this gives it antibacterial healing effects. Papain can be used to help remove damaged or dead skin cells to give a clearer complexion.

Peel and chop a papaya into chunks, mix the papaya with one part honey. Use a pestle and mortar to mix the papaya and honey into a thick paste. Apply the mixture evenly to your face and neck and leave for 30 minutes. Rinse the mixture off with a damp flannel and cold water. Once you have dried your face, apply some rose water to it.

Coconut

Coconut oil is full of antioxidants that can give your skin a clear, healthy glow. Plus, its antifungal and antibacterial effects can help to keep skin clear, soft and well moisturised. One of the best things about coconut oil is that it not only works on the outer skin, it can also infiltrate deep into the skin’s layers.

Coconut oil comes as a solid; you will need to warm it gently on the hob or in the microwave before using it. Carefully apply the melted oil to your face and massage it slowly in. After 10 minutes rinse the oil off with warm water. Use this treatment regularly for smooth skin.

Avocado

Avocados can not only improve your complexion by being applied directly to your skin, they can also work from the inside out. They are full of healthy acids, vitamins and antioxidants that if eaten can help to improve your skin’s complexion.

Avocados contain not only vitamin C, but also vitamin E, both of which are essential for having healthy skin. As avocado has vitamin E in it, it also has excellent anti-aging properties. Plus, avocado can be used to nourish and hydrate the skin without causing any irritation or discomfort. Whilst an avocado face mask is most suitable for dry skin, it is suitable for use on all skin types.

For a clear complexion, mash two parts avocado with one part honey and one part cocoa powder. Mix until a smooth paste is formed. These three ingredients combined create an amazing, antibacterial, antifungal, spot killing face mask. Apply the paste to the face, make sure not to get it into the eye. After 20 minutes wash off with warm water and dry your face.
