How To Detox Before The Holidays

The holidays are just around the corner. Most of us tend to indulge in food and drink over the festive period, so why not treat your body to a period of detox beforehand? If you’ve got parties planned, here are some helpful hacks to cleanse your body and soul in preparation.

Treat Yo Self

Before we hop into the real idea of “cleansing”, it’s important to start by treating yourself to some relaxation. Let’s call it the calm before the storm, shall we?

As much as this season is all about giving, it’s important to save some time for yourself. That means not exhausting yourself, and setting some time aside for you! I find that the best way to get ready for the hustle and bustle of the holidays is to treat yourself to a little spa at home. This can range from just a simple bath soak in your favourite bath bombs, to using some of your favourite products to add some shine and sparkle to your regular beauty regime.

Now that this is the time for beauty sets, maybe pick up one for yourself and get festive! This set from Beautycounter not only makes for a beautiful gift – really, the packaging is special enough, but the Shimmer and Shine gift set is the perfect way to feel special and get ready for the busy holidays in just 3 simple steps. Buff away dryness, deeply hydrate and highlight supple and smooth skin so you can feel ready for whatever the Holidays throw your way. Not to mention, this set features special travel-friendly sizes so you can take your shimmer and shine on the go if you are travelling over the holidays! BONUS!

Hydration

Parties usually involve drinking alcohol, which leads to dehydration. At this time of year, it’s essential to stay hydrated because late nights and winter bugs can soon take their toll. The best way to keep dehydration at bay is to drink plenty of water. Carry a bottle around with you is my personal favourite tip to ensure that I’m drinking enough. If you’re not keen on plain water, add some fresh lemon slices or other fruits you love. Make it your mission to finish your water intake by the end of the day. When you’re drinking alcohol, try and alternate drinks with a glass of water. This will stop you from drinking too much, and prevent unwanted hangovers.

Detox drinks

Detoxing has become very fashionable, and there are all kinds of products on offer. You can buy powders and shakes online and make your own detox drink at home. These specially designed formulas contain enzymes and natural ingredients which help boost your metabolism and improve bowel function.

Sleep

There’s no better way to set you up for the holiday period than getting enough sleep. Sleep is essential for good health. While you’re snoozing, all kinds of important processes are taking place in your body. You need rest to recover and prepare for the next day. Make it your aim to get to sleep at a reasonable time every night.

Clean eating

When you’re detoxing, you need to eat foods that provide you with nutritional benefits. Steer clear of anything that is high in saturated and trans fats. Grill meat and vegetables rather than frying them. Moderate your intake of sugar, and avoid processed foods. If you’re not a maestro in the kitchen, don’t worry, you’ll find an array of simple, healthy recipes online!

Exercise

Exercise boosts your fitness and increases strength and endurance, but it’s also a natural cleansing technique. When you work out, your body gets rid of toxins. Exercise can also be a really effective stress-buster, which may prove useful at this time of year. Have you got deadlines approaching? Is Christmas preparation stressing you out? If so, make time to go for a jog, take a walk with the dog or do a spin class.

The holidays are coming, and many of us are looking forward to well-earned time off and festive celebrations. If you’re planning to party or indulge this Christmas, spend the next couple of weeks detoxing. Eat clean, stay hydrated, and lay off the Christmas cocktails. Detoxing will help to boost your health just in time for the holidays.
