ONEXONE FOUNDATION JOINS LIVE BELOW THE LINE

OnexOne-Foundation

In an effort to raise awareness for the lack of choice and opportunity faced by 1.2 billion people living in extreme poverty worldwide, ONEXONE joins Live Below the Line: a global initiative challenging people from all walks of life to spend only $1.75 per day on food and drink from April 27th  to May 1st, 2015.

Could you live on $1.75 a day? According to the World Bank, 1.2 billion people, about 20% of the world’s population, live in extreme poverty. The World Bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than $1.75 a day for food and drink, as well as housing, education, health, and all the other necessities most of us take for granted.

To raise awareness, ONEXONE founder and global humanitarian Joey Adler has chosen to take this challenge a step further by living on the streets to raise awareness on the plight of homeless people, particularly First Nations youth. She’ll also be living on the streets to raise awareness for the plight of homeless people, particularly First Nations youth, and the challenges they face while living in poverty.

“No one should have to live below the poverty line. My mandate is to raise awareness beyond a lack of food or drink. It’s a global fight that Canadians should not only be aware of, but help to combat in any small way they can.” – Joey Adler, founder, ONEXONE

In sharing Live Below the Line’s commitment to changing the way Canadians think about food insecurity, ONEXONE has become one of 11 official charity partners in the 2015 Live Below the Line challenge. In partnership with ONEXONE, Live Below the Line aims to increase the number and overall effectiveness of people taking action against extreme poverty.

At present, 13% of Canadians, or 4 million people – including 1.15 million children – experience food insecurity, with a disproportionate amount identifying as First Nations (27%). Through ONEXONE’s First Nations School Breakfast Program, the foundation has provided over 700,000 nutritious meals over the past year to more than 4,500 children in remote locations, where access to healthy food is a major challenge.

From April 27 to May 1, ONEXONE’s founder Joey Adler will be taking the Live Below the Line challenge alongside many supporters and we encourage you to take part also! You can sign up and join ONEXONE’s team, who will be joining Joey in the challenge, and agreeing to eat for $1.75 a day, raising funds for ONEXONE in the process. Or, if you can’t take part yourself, please join the fight by making a donation to the campaign here and by helping spread the word on social media!
