Turn Your Bathroom into a Luxury Space

Turn Your Bathroom into a Luxury Space

You might not think about it, but we spend a significant portion of our lives in the bathroom. We’re in and out throughout the day, which means we have to look at our bathroom decor a lot. People often put a lot of effort into decorating their kitchen or bedroom. But they aren’t as interested in creating the ultimate bathroom. There are so many awesome things you can do with your bathroom, though, from installing a giant shower to making it really high-tech. If you think your washroom is boring, you can make some design changes to improve it. Turn Your bathroom into a luxury space that rivals the ones you find in 5-star hotels.

Walls

When you decorate your bathroom, you can paint, or you can tile. Tiles might be more expensive, but they have much more of a luxury feel than painted walls do. You can save money by using a cheap tile for most of the room, and a more expensive design for accents. Try not to choose anything too dark or you could end up with a very shadowy bathroom. But if you use black or another darker shade, offset it with something lighter.

Floors

Bathroom floors are better off with tiles too. It would be very strange to use carpets, and wooden floors are difficult to care for. You could use laminate flooring, but you might find you prefer more conventional tiling. Tiles can be chilly on your feet, though, so think about putting in underfloor heating. It will keep your toes warm when you step out of the bath or shower.

Shower Options

For a luxury feel to your bathroom, you want to have as much room as possible in the shower. There are a few ways you can do this, even if you only have a small space to work with. If you can only put your shower in the tub, consider getting a P-shaped tub, which is curved at one end. For a standalone shower, you can choose to have a larger cubicle with a bathroom shower door. However, if you don’t have much room to work with, consider having a wet room. You can tile the whole room so that you don’t need to use a cubicle or door, giving you more space to move around.

Bathtubs

Before you decide whether to put a tub in your bathroom, think about how much use it will get. It might look incredible, but does anyone in your home take frequent baths? If you won’t get much use out of it, you might choose not to put one in. You can use all the space for a large shower instead. However, if you do decide you want one, you have a lot of options to choose from. Is your tub going to be against the wall or do you want a free-standing one? You can have one with feet or without, stick with classic white or pick a more dramatic colour. You should also consider whether you want to have a shower in the bath, or a separate one if you have room.

Toilets

People tend to get embarrassed about toilets. But there’s no reason they can’t be as nice as any other part of your bathroom. The most important thing is that they match the rest of the bathroom suite. So if you choose an elegant bath and basin, you’re likely to get a good looking commode too. One of the things you might want to consider doing is hiding the water tank. You won’t see a big, bulky tank on display in most luxury bathrooms. But make sure you still have access to it, in case anything goes wrong. Another popular design choice is to raise the toilet off the floor.

Basins

When it comes to bathroom sinks, putting them into vanities or counters seems to be the done thing. Alternatively, you can have them on top of a surface, so they stand out more. But you don’t have to stick with a single basin if you want a luxury bathroom. You can have two of them, or you can even put in one long one that stretches across the washroom. It’s best to choose a single faucet that you can swing from hot to cold for practicality.

Bathroom Storage

Bathrooms can easily get cluttered, and they don’t look great if there are toiletries or kids’ bath toys everywhere. Luckily, it’s easy to install some elegant storage, in the form of cabinets, shelves and vanities. Choose units that will fit in with the rest of the room, and that are easy to keep clean. You can try to make it blend in with the remainder of the room as much as possible.

Lighting

Installing lights in your bathroom can be much more complicated than putting in a single bulb. There are lots of choices you can make to improve the atmosphere and make it more pleasurable to use the room. Think about the mood you might want to create when you’re in the bath or shower. You could put in smaller lights that you can turn on and off with individual switches. There are some areas of the bathroom where you might want more light, such as by the mirror. Pick mood and accent lighting to illuminate the room, not just practical options.

Bathroom Tech

Technology is everywhere in the home now, and the bathroom is no exception. You have lots of ways you can add tech to yours. If you have to have music wherever you go, you can put waterproof speakers in for your bath or shower. Bathroom televisions are all the rage in hotels now, so why not have one in your home too? Even smaller gadgets like bathroom scales are now more high-tech than ever, with smart technology that lets you link them to your phone.

Your bathroom can be more than just the place where you do your daily business and ablutions. Turn it into a luxury room that you love spending time in, and that you don’t want to leave.
