Vawk for eBay Holiday Collection

VAWK for eBay Holiday LOGO

VAWK, the Canadian luxury ready-to-wear label by Sunny Fong is releasing its second collection with eBay right in time for the Holiday season.

“Instead of just brining back the items we created from the last collection, I spiced them up for the Holidays” -Sunny Fong

The pièce de résistance of the collection is the “White Manta Gown”, a one-of-a-kind winter-white formal gown that will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting Kids Help Phone, the best part? The bidding starts at 99 cents! The auction will begin on December 2nd and run for 7 days so keep your eyes on the bids and you could own your very own VAWK collection item!

The “White Manta Gown” is both red carpet ready as well as a perfect wedding dress for the modern bride. Fong thinks “once a girl is wearing that dress and walks in the room everyone will stop and ask ‘whose that girl?'” he then joked “why is she wearing white after labour day?!” Its winter-white so you are covered if you follow that rule!

The other most coveted item from the collection is the black “Manta Holiday Dress” that will also be up for auction, opening bid starting at $99. The dress is made of ponte which is a double-knit fabric that is both stretchy yet fitted. Fong chose the material because, unlike jersey, it clings to a woman’s body “without showing all of the lumps and bumps.” Fong is adamant about making women feel great while wearing his clothing and let us know that he was also  very conscious of the eBay buyer and chose to add such features as “longer sleeves if she doesn’t want to show her arms” and he picked the perfect length “so that someone who is shorter can still look as if they have long legs”.

The “Manta Holiday Dress” is glamorous and a must-have for all the parties this season, however it is a collectable and can be worn every year.

For women Fong created a leather embossed collar (set price of $79), a leather embossed cuff (set price of $59), and a fox fur trimmed Manta caplet (set price of $69).

Fong didn’t forget the man in your life, he created a leather tie (set price of $79) and a leather embossed cuff (set price of $59), both have the same details as the collar and cuff for the women, and a leopard print pocket square (set price of $49).

If you love print then you must get your hands on the scarves Fong created. There is a lizard-twig print silk-blend scarf that is larger than life at 20″x70″ and ombres from light blue to navy (set price of $89) and there is the zebra-spiral print silk scarf which will cover you quite nicely at 53″x53″ and plays with a mixture of rich purples, fuschias, and reds (set price of $105).

Fong let us know that “last season we did these in a black and white so this season we wanted to give the customers the opportunity to add to their collection by offering the prints in colour”. Touching upon the colour choices Fong says “its the Holidays, you want to add some colour to your wardrobe”.
I asked Fong what he feels makes something VAWK and he responded that “its all about the materials. The materials have to say something to me.” The materials are all local and all items are handmade in the studio.

I attribute most of his success to his ability to create such a noticeable aesthetic, I feel as if I can always tell when something is VAWK and Fong admits that he “is very particular” and ensures he has his hands in everything to do with the brand. He “knows what he likes” and “always wants to be consistent.”

Whats next for VAWK? Currently Fong is working on Fall/Winter 2014 and would love to expand to the States. Fong also partnered with The Bay and created a custom coat for Men’s White Space, an initiative that he and two other Canadian companies, Philip Sparks and Krane Design, were asked to participate in.
