2015 Décor Trends You Should Expect To See

2015 Décor Trends You Should Expect To See

Welcome “officially” to 2015, the year of Marsala according to Pantone. Despite the announcement of this robust and earthy wine red shade, I really think this year it should be all about blue.

It is and will be everywhere in 2015! Whether it’s in the form of bold statement furnishings, Mediterranean “Santorini, Greece rooftop” blue, in high gloss lacquer, moody indigos or teamed up alongside yellow or green for a bold mix, you won’t miss it.

And I for one am ok with that, as blue is a great neutral with enough variety to keep this novice design lover entertained all year round. In addition to feeling the “Moody Blues,” here are a few other 2015 décor trends I think you’ll be seeing a lot of this year:

Miss Matched: Not to be confused with mishmash, this design trend blends a variety of styles, material and patterns into a space, yet somehow manages to look cohesive and elegant. Think unexpected textures, natural materials, rich colour palettes and rough cowhides mixed together with delicate lighting and accents.

Less is Not More: Curated clutter I call it. Don’t be afraid to make your space look lived it. Think big, comfy sectionals and feel free to mix pattern on pattern, and splurge on that extra “do-tad” you love when purusing the aisles at Home Sense. But, I can’t stress enough – there is a fine line with this look before your space starts to look messy, so be sure to account for the size of a room and curate your finds so they don’t overwhelm it.

A Golden Eye: Say goodbye to stainless steel finishes. Long gone are the days were every sofa leg, cupboard pull or faucet was either one of two finishes – matte nickel or stainless steel.

Mid-Century Modern, Razzle Dazzle: Back again and with a vengeance, you’ll continue to see this retro trend in 2015, but with a brighter and sparklier twist. No one wants to live in a time capsule, so here’s how to take this 70s  inspiration of statement furniture (see Booby Berk Home), bold colours and geometric prints into present day design.

And here are a few ways to incorporate the trends in your space:

I'm Lisa, a real born and bred Torontonian in every sense of the word. I'm a PR practitioner by day with a fabulous client list, at a very cool boutique firm in the core with a view of the city that can make anyone want to move here. I have a mild to moderate hat obsession, and you’ll usually find me searching the city for the next big chef, and rarely without a fashion or décor magazine in my purse. Before PR, I was a travel writer/editor/photographer, and spent most of my time travelling the world and bringing my stories back here. The rest of the time I spent indulging in the city's untapped culinary scene as Post City Magazine's main restaurant photographer. But, no matter where I am in the world, nothing beats coming home. That's why I've spent the last few years planting my roots here, moving from Toronto’s uber-chic west side to the heart of Greek Town in a modern Victorian semi (a.ka. my lifelong décor project), with my husband and super-stylish son. Yes, I'm one of those moms, the one who won't give up her sense of style post-baby bump; and why should I?! I aspire to have my cake and eat it too - I am Italian after all. And, now why my 2-year-old in tow, I can bring him along for the ride.
