MORE ON 90SIX AND LADY MISS KIER

Remember Doc Martins, flannel shirts, slap bracelets, Mortal Kombat, the OJ Simpson Trial and the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal? Remember life BEFORE the war on terror when the western world was relatively quiet and at peace… When Generation Y only cared about hitting HMV to grab the first copy of Dance Mix 96?!

  • Well 90s are the new 80s — experiencing both a music and fashion revival — and Toronto night club Six Degrees is spearheading the trend by launching the biggest retro 90s night in the city: 90SIX.
  • Thursday June 23rd will be the first of the monthly series, which will feature some of the biggest, global talents of that decade.
  • Opening night kicks off with DJ Lady Miss Kier (formerly from Deee-lite) who will be spinning the top tracks of the 90s (think Right Said Fred, Haddaway, Ace of Base, La Bouche, 2 Unlimited, Black Box,etc.). The night will be themed so be prepared for a blast from the past, 90s attire STRONGLY encouraged.
  • Lady Miss Kier is best known for her album World Clique and the infamous song Groove is in the Heart.
  • Fusing house, techno, rap, ambient, and funk music with an outrageous visual flair largely influenced by the drag queen community (Kier’s fondness for John Fluevog platform shoes helped the ’70s fashion revival gather steam), Deee-Lite became hugely popular among New York club denizens, and the trio’s own unique cultural make-up earned them a following which ignored racial and sexual boundaries.
  • After they disbanded in the late 1990s Lady Miss Kier continued to hone her craft on the turn tables, spinning retro acid house and 90s dance anthems. She has also started a new band, and they will be releasing their first album later this year.
