Explore Ontario with GO Transit

Travelling outside the city of Toronto just got a lot easier this summer with the help of GO Transit, as it welcomes back weekend train service to Niagara and Barrie. The company announced schedules for two routes that will run throughout the July to September, making it easier to escape for a quick getaway to wine country or to a nearby beach!

Our GO Transit summer schedule offers an affordable and easy getaway from the busyness of the city,” said Mary Proc, vice president of customer service for GO Transit. “It provides riders with a stress-free way of exploring other parts of Ontario without the worry of weekend getaway traffic or deciding who will drive home.”

Torontonians and visitors looking to explore Ontario’s wine region can enjoy a gridlock-free visit to Niagara, where they can follow a network of bicycle paths, take in picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake or experience a bicycle-powered epicurean and winery adventure, all without the need for a designated driver. Those who want to explore without a bike in tow are offered a GO Bus shuttle that will meet trains in St. Catharines with a direct route to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

A sneak peek of the service to Niagara will take place over the Victoria Day holiday weekend (Friday, May 15 to Monday, May 18) returning for weekend service throughout the summer months from Friday, July 3, to Monday, Sept 7. Service will pick back up for Thanksgiving weekend (Friday, Oct. 9, to Monday, Oct. 12), giving riders the chance to see the beautiful fall foliage as leaves change colours in the Niagara region. Riders can catch the service from Union Station or Exhibition once-daily on Fridays and three-times daily on Saturdays, Sunday and holidays.

For those looking for a more laid-back adventure, Barrie’s waterfront beaches, brewery tours and festivals will hit the spot. Beginning Saturday, June 27, through Monday, Sept. 7, GO Transit’s seasonal service to this charming city on the shore of Lake Simcoe will relieve riders from a crowded commute on Highway 400 and quickly land them in the heart of the city’s historic downtown, where they can take in all that Barrie has to offer.

Seasonal service to Barrie will operate four times daily on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, along with trips along the Barrie line where you have access to all stops between Allandale Waterfront and Union Station

With GO Transit’s extended summer services, getting outside the city has become easier than ever. They will even have specific train cars dedicated to bringing passengers and their bicycles to the end destination so you can get off and hop on your bike for some riding!

Here is where you can plan it all!
