Going Raw with Big Country Raw

Going Raw with Big Country Raw

Since getting Freddie in December, I am constantly reminded of how much joy this fluff brings me and because of it, I’ve been trying to educate myself on all things puppy and dog health.

With that being said, going raw has been something both Stuart and I have been pondering for some time now. Little by little we’ve been incorporating raw foods into his diet and while it has been minimal up until this point, it’s been great so far!

Recently, My friends at Big Country Raw introduced their amazing raw products to both myself and Freddie and after doing some more research on going raw and Big Country Raw, I was excited to jump right in.

There really are so many benefits to going raw and seeing Freddie as more than a pup and more like a family member makes this an important transition so that he can lead a very long and happy life! Not to mention, Big Country Raw not only makes going raw convenient, but fun and exciting as Freddie learns what flavours and textures he loves!

Big Country Raw was also a great company to start this journey with, as it is a proudly Canadian company, sourcing their raw locally while they process, package and ship directly from the manufacturing facility to your local retailer or even more conveniently, to your front door! As I’m sure price comes up when thinking about raw as well, since Big Country Raw supports and sources directly with Canadian farmers, it keeps costs lower and therefore, a more affordable option than you would think – which we were happy to hear too!

To get Freddie started on this journey, we picked up a few items for him to enjoy as a snack, a special treat and even like a topper to his regular food.

To start, we opted for the All Natural Goat Milk, Pumpkin Puree, Meaty Bones, Sardines and Flat Rib Bone. Firstly, I’m so pleased with the delivery and the quality of the product and packaging. The Meaty Bones, which make for a nice long treat and Sardines are in a convenient bag that sits conveniently in your freezer until you are ready to use it and the Pumpkin Purée came in a perfect size container that can easily be placed in your refrigerate to reopen and reuse.

The Pumpkin Purée was the first product that Freddie tried, and let me tell you, he is obsessed. He has enjoyed sweet potato purée at home which I have made myself, but it was so refreshing to not have to boil, mash and purée anything myself. A little scoop goals a long way in his meals and it offers a nice smooth texture for him to enjoy while getting some veggie intake.

The Raw Goat Milk I have to say blew me away because I had literally no idea of the benefits as well as the many ways your dog can enjoy it. It is a great way to successfully restore good digestive gut bacteria when making the switch from dry food to raw, so it is ideal for dogs starting out with eating raw.

Additionally, Raw Goat Milk helps treat irritable bowel syndrome, restores and rebuilds gut Flora, promotes a healthy digestive system, and strengthens the immune system and reduces allergies just to name a few benefits. After reading this list of benefits, I was encouraged to make a little frozen snack for Freddie using the Raw Good Milk, fresh frozen strawberries, a banana and the Big Country Raw freezer molds. I eventually began testing out other concoctions in the mould and It’s been a hit, and Freddie is a huge fan of frozen treats, so it’s safe to say that he loves and devours these!

Through Big Country Raw I’ve discovered so many new and fun ways to introduce raw eating to Freddie and with the many options available, I’m sure Freddie will never be bored of his food.
