Guess Spring 2014 Preview

What makes a GUESS girl? Growing up I dreamed about one day becoming one of those classic Guess beauties and apparently it is that nostalgia which characterizes the Guess Spring 2014 collection.

On the eve of November 5th the fashion crowd headed to the Spoke Club and amongst the art housed in the gallery section of the club we feasted our eyes on GUESS clothing, footwear, accessories, and handbags. The DJ outfitted in an amazing sparkling dress spun out some of the best remixes I’ve ever heard as delicious wine and tempting treats were served to the guests.

Four looks were presented: Spring day wear, the GUESS denim collection, the black/white/red night looks, and the pretty in dusty pink and black outfits. The mannequins in the middle of the showroom wore pieces from the “Originals” collection where one shirt pays homage to the late and great Anna Nicole, a famous GUESS girl.

For Spring, we have our fair share of bright fun and flirty colours for Spring/ Summer day wear. I can see a lot of these looks being worn at the music festivals because they are very lightweight and airy and perfect to move around in but you still look adorable.

If you love your denim, GUESS is offering their basic denim collection but for Spring you can expect a lot of distressed jeans in both light and dark blues, there are great shorts with eyelet pockets and patch work details, and they are bringing back both the bell bottoms and the high waisted jeans for all you 70s & 80s lovers.

GUESS always incorporates black into their collections and for Spring they are balancing it out with dusty pink. Items from these looks would be perfect for Rihanna and any girl who likes to have some edge to their outfit. You can pair a leather pencil skirt with a striped dusty pink crop top, grab a pair of the killer heels, rock some of those amazing bracelets and be on your way. Crop tops are still in but longer so they are more wearable.

Adding onto the dusty pink/black looks, they also offers darker night wear with the always popular black and white looks but gives us a pop of red. There are great sailor stripped shirts with low backs that are perfect for any night out as well as stunning cherry ready handbags and flats that are essentials for Spring. My favourite look had to be a leather vest with a great black long narrow sleeveless high neck dress with mesh and an amazing silver ID chain necklace.

The “Originals” collection seen on all of the mannequins show us that GUESS is bringing back their old original designs but giving them a modern twist. This is where the bell bottoms and high waisted jeans come into play. It is the brand you knew and loved growing up with but its is modern enough to wear now.

For footwear and accessorizes expect something that matches each look but can also stand well on their own. There is an entire collection in the python print: handbags, sandals, and cuffs, that are always going to be in style for Spring. Certain items stand out in my mind: great caged booties apart of the the black/white/red collection, the ID chain necklaces in silver and gold are definite must haves, chunky watches in all metals that look great with everything, the pointed-toe flat in beige, black, and red looked extremely chic, and the tiny cross-body bags that came in an assortment of colours with tons of hardware are both functional and stylish.
