Ray-Ban Wayfarers

I have an addiction to sunglasses because I love changing them up often and because I constantly lose or break them. A nice pair of sunnies undoubtedly makes my rainy day.

One of my favourite designs is the Wayferer from Ray-Ban not only for its sleek and understated look, but for its history too. This pair of glasses has been around since the ’50s, faced discontinuation by the start of the 80’s, was saved by appearing in over 60 movies and shows later that decade, faced a second decline in the ’90s, was redesigned in the 2000’s and has been back in the limelight ever since.

That is a lot for a pair of sunglasses to go through, but I quite like knowing that my sunnies are more than just an eyeshield against damaging UV rays or a perfect accessory to a très chic ensemble – they are emotional and deep and require every ounce of my love, which of course I intend to give them til my last day on this earth.

The best thing about the Wayfarers is that they are versatile. I can slap these babies on my bare mug to hide the bags under my eyes when I cannot be bothered to look human or to bring out my inner Anna Wintour at fashion week with the classic design glued to my nose as I sit front row with an indifferent expression (ha jokes! I’d never wear my sunglasses indoors, or at night for that matter and I will spare you my rant on what I think about that travesty of the fashion industry, but I will share a random fact: did you know that Corey Hart wore Ray-Ban Wayfareres in his “Sunglasses at Night” video?)

I got my beautiful pair of classic black Ray-Ban Wayferer’s from Buytopia.ca – check them out because they have some seriously impressive deals going on every day!

Finally, as I was finishing writing this my boyfriend Michael asked what I was doing so I read the article to him. He asked what type of glasses they were so I showed him the above photo, and he responded with, “Ah, such basic ones”. I admit I laughed at how fashionably unfashionable he is, and at how a simple pair of sunglasses has a complex history. Perhaps Michael’s comment has an underlying message – sometimes less is more.

I just sat through this entire video and now I feel like I need to go on an episode of “Video On Trial”.
