Tips for Stylish Layering in the Winter

Okay guys, I know I’ve lived in Toronto my entire life and I should be used to the cold weather, but this cold is on another level! I usually walk around outside – jacket open, no gloves or scarf but lately, I’ve been so bundled and I’ve had no choice but to get creative! Though my body runs fairly warm, there is no escaping the frigid cold when you have to live your life, head to work, or in my case, go to brunch, so I’ve put tougher some super easy tips on how to stay bundled but look stylish at the same time!

  • Layer with undergarments – ALWAYS! This is a no brainer, but wearing spanx, tights and even a tank underneath all your clothing keeps all the warmth in without adding bulk
  • If you know you are going to be both indoors and outdoors, focus on light layers – items that are easy to remove and add so that when you’re inside you’re temp is perfect and you’re not overheating in chunky layers
  • Double up on Coats. We have all the leather and denim jackets, so why not get use in the colder temps. Just layer underneath an oversized coat (and one that fits comfortably) and you’re set!
  • Accessories don’t have to just be a toque and scarf. I’m a serious hat lover and I like to have fun with my hats rather than always feeling like I need a big pom pom toque on! This one is Le Chateau, but my favourite places for hats are Shopbop, Lack of Color, Brixton and Amazon
  • Soeaking of accessories, this is your area to splurge. Items like leather gloves, cashmere scarves and even sunnies to block the wind will be used throughout the season, so don’t go cheap
  • Pick up multiple scarves in different prints and colours for the season. You will be wearing these scarves all season, so why not switch them up
  • Stock up on turtlenecks. They will not only keep your neck warm in the cold, but they are an amazing layering piece that looks chic AF under a collard shirt, dress and even under another turtleneck
  • Appropriate footwear is a must and aside from wearing two pairs of socks, opt for good leather shoes and over the knee boots are a great option for locking in warmth
  • Invest in heat tech products that are designed to lock in your body heat without creating bulk, so you can easily layer these pieces under your most fashionable outfits

These are just a few tips, but they are the ones that are keeping me super warm! I’m not always one to rock a big parka and be stuck in really chunky pieces, so if you’re looking to stay warm this season and still look chic and put together, these tips will keep you prepared!
