Tips for a Smoother Morning Routine

  1. Drink a cool glass of water when you wake up – Not only does water have loads of health benefits but its the perfect way to wake up and kick start your metabolism. It will also make you feel more alert! I also find that some days I find myself skipping the coffee after I’ve had cold water with lemon – it ends up being a great habit.
  2. I always start my morning with a 10 minute stretch. When working out and being active, I feel like waking up and stretching is the perfect feeling in the morning to get my muscles feeling stretched and loose so I can have a more comfortable day with minimal back pain – especially since I work at my desk all day!
  3. Plan ahead. Whether that is your outfit that has you wasting time in the morning or that pesky eyeliner that is just never right, plan your morning schedule the night before or even Sunday night before the week starts. Try separating a section on your clothing rack for what you will wear that week – even if it is not the exact outfit, it will save you time. Also, when I am having issues with eyeliner, I skip it and go for eyeshadow and mascara instead and save the liner for a morning that I’m up early and ready to tackle it. C’mon ladies, don’t act like you nail that cat eye every time! DSC01522
  4. Now this is crucial guys. I always, and I mean always get ready with my favourite tunes on. I’m sure everyone can agree with me that music has a way of making us feel alive and excited no matter the pressures in life, so I suggest blasting some of your favourite tunes in the morning as you brush your teeth, get dressed and apply makeup. It to ally pumps me up!
  5. I want to say that this is the most important tip for having a smooth and efficient morning and that is to stay off social media, at least until you are dressed and ready to go. Believe me, I know how hard that can be, but I’m sure everyone can relate to getting distracted by simply scrolling through Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, you name it! Not only will it waste you time, but I find that saving social media for after I’m ready to go will keep me from getting distracted from my daily goals. It’s easy to get carried away with anyone, but social media can have the power of making you start your day late and ain’t nobody got time for that!
  6. The snooze button has become our saviour, but I find that we just end up hitting it until it’s too late! Start getting a good night-time routine down so you can find out how much sleep is just right for you. If you love the snooze button, then set your alarm 30 minutes early and give yourself 2 times to hit the snooze so when you wake up you are actually on time but you really gave your body some time to “wake up”. I’m basically a fan of tricking my body and mind!DSC00977
  7. Don’t skip breakfast – ever! I used to be that person that thought a glass of tea was breakfast, but by noon I was feeling drained and absolutely exhausted. I’m almost 30 (tomorrow to be exact) and it’s insane to think I was this tired. I understand having breakfast can really cut your time in the morning, but I promise it will help you out in the long run. My advice for those on the go? Don’t purchase the quick breakfasts because they are loaded with bad ingredients. Instead, put together an easy breakfast for the week that can just be heated in the microwave each morning or prepare something that you can eat cold. Eggs are such  powerful food, so I love making my mini quiche cakes. Filled with eggs, veggies and cheese, I inhale these puppies and feel energized and full until lunch!
