Wine of the Week: California Wine Fair

Wine of the Week: California Wine Fair

Apparently it’s going to rain this weekend. It seems like we can’t catch a break with this winter’s extreme weather. On the bright side, rain means warmer weather and warmer weather means that spring is just around the corner. Spring brings flowers, sunshine, green grass and most importantly, the California Wine Fair….which makes me VERY happy.

Some people look down their noses at ‘New World’ wine but I feel as though California wine seems to embody the elements of the California lifestyle- vibrant, spirited and full of excitement. With a sip of a Mirassou Pinot Noir, I feel as though I am transported to a warm vineyard (maybe the one in Sideways), surrounded by friends, sitting around a long rustic dinner table under the stars and laughing- (about what, Im not sure, but laughing). A Californian wine is piece of West Coast sunshine.

And that’s why I can’t wait for the California Wine Institute’s 2014 tour. I want to feel warm, vivacious- I want to drink delicious wines. April 7th, 150 California wineries will be at The Fairmont Royal York offering tastings of over 400 wines. It’s the opportunity to sample your favourites such as E & J Gallo, Beringer, Jlohr, and perhaps discover a new favourite. If you would like to join me for a drink of the sun kissed wine country, check out www.calwine.ca for more information and to purchase tickets.

In the meantime, head to your nearest LCBO and grab a bottle of California wine country.
