If you remember my recap of my hair journey here, you would have seen what my hair has gone through over the years, and how much I have fallen back in love with my hair recently. With help from Sassoon Salons and listening to my own tips and tricks, I have gradually been growing my hair and treating it with all the love in the world! After all, we should all be looking after our hair as much as we do our bodies and skin, right? But if you are only beginning your journey to luscious locks, then I’m sure you are wondering where on earth does one start!

This simple guide will ensure you always have luscious looking locks!

What You Eat and Drink

You might not believe us, but what you eat and drink plays a big part in how your hair looks. Eat junk food all the time and your hair will look like junk. No lie. However, eat a healthy diet and your hair will look healthy. It’s simple really! Focus on getting lots of vitamins from fruit and veg. Plus a ton of protein from lean meats and eggs. Fish is good for Omega-3, which can help your hair look amazing. You should also be drinking plenty of water to keep your hair hydrated. Put all the right things into your body and your hair will thank you.

What You Put on Your Hair

The products you use on your locks can also play a big part in how healthy it is. Pack your mane with a ton of products and it’s not going to be very happy. Use the right products in moderation and you’ll notice a huge difference. Here are some of the things you can (and should) use on your hair.

  • Shampoo and Conditioner – Shop around for one that matches your hair type. Read reviews and do your research. If you find that it’s making your hair limp or lifeless, then chuck it out. It’s worth buying travel sized products to test first so you can give yourself a week or two to see the results!
  • Heat Protection – If you’re going to be using heat on your hair for styling, then you need heat protection spray which is designed to nourish and protect dry hair during blow-drying. Spritz over your locks before you blow-dry, and don’t forget to brush through!   It is an absolute must-have for dull, rough hair in need of some TLC!
  • Treatments – I give my hair a good treatment at the salon every time I go, but I also do simple treatments at home like Pantene Pro-V 3 Minute Miracle which works wonders and deep conditions.
  • Oils – I highly recommend using hair oils every now and then, to add a bit of shine to your ends. Don’t go overboard with these though – they should be used sparingly.

Tip: Where possible, try to avoid hairsprays and mousses. These can clog up your hair follicles and cause split ends. Never a good look!

Who Touches Your Hair

By this, I mean your hairdresser of course. Your hairdresser should become one of your best friends if you want constantly lovely looking locks. I’m not saying you have to spend a fortune getting it cut every month, however, you should be with a stylist who knows you and your hair type. It can take a while to find one that’s good enough, but it will be worth it. They will be able to advise you on products and styles, along with how often to get it trimmed. Building a relationship with your hairdresser could be one of the best things you ever do! I see Sassoon Salon as my family at this point, and not only do I feel at home while there, but my stylist, Wesley and colourist, John have become my go-to men who are honest with what works and they ALWAYS make me feel like I’m making the best decisions – even when I wanted my bangs! Remember them?

While these are only some super easy tips and tricks, they will get you on the road to those luscious locks!
