Bring Warmth into Your Home with These Techniques

It won’t be long before the weather turns cold again, and we’ll all be trying to keep warm. Turning on your heating will naturally heat up your house, but the way it looks can make a difference too. If a room looks cool and fresh, it might be good for summer, but it could make you feel even colder in the winter. Creating a home that looks warm could make you feel warmer, and even allow you to reduce your heating bill. Try using the tips below to decorate your home and make it feel like a warm and cozy place to be.

Use Warm Lighting

Did you know that lights have different levels of warmth? A bright white light doesn’t feel very hot, whereas a softer yellow or orange does. Choosing the best lighting for your home can make a significant difference to its look and feel. Changing your light bulbs is one way that you can adjust the lights in your home. You can switch to B22 LED bulbs with bayonet cap or something similar. You don’t have to stick to yellows and oranges either. You could also use other colours, such as red or purple. Lamp shades can also make a difference to the colours and lighting levels in your home.

Choosing the Right Colours

The colour scheme in your home is also important to create a cozy feel. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that a plain white room will feel cooler than one with more colour. Choose warm colours such as orange, red and yellow, which are good at reflecting light. You can also combine them with darker and cooler shades so that it’s not overwhelming. Dark and neutral shades can help to add extra warmth. For example, brown or terracotta are great earthy colours. If you want to keep the colour scheme more neutral, choose shades based on warm colours and avoid things like grey or blue.

Cozy Textiles

Using some warm and comfortable fabrics for your upholstery and accessories can help to make a room more welcoming. There are lots of ways you can choose the right textiles to prepare your room for winter. Some of them might be permanent fixtures on your furniture, like a leather sofa or a fabric-covered chair. You can also add things such as throws, blankets and cushions. Not only will they give the appearance of warmth, but they can help make people physically warmer too.

Layering and Texturing

If your home looks too empty, it won’t look very warm. Too much space and minimalism could make everything appear too airy. You need to create a multidimensional space that has lots going on if you want it to feel cozy. Once you have your furniture in the room, you can add other elements to make it more exciting. Use mirrors, picture frames, cushions, ornaments and more to give the room more texture and personality.

Making your home look warmer will help it feel warmer too. Give it a new image and you could end up paying less for your heating bills.
