Your Guide to Happy & Healthy Spring Hair

The warm weather is officially here and that means sunshine and loads of time spent outdoors, especially on the beach! With that being said, we’ve gone a few months without the warmth and sunshine, so our hair has been craving some extra TLC to combat the weather change and the fact that we may have been hibernating during the cooler months.

For Spring, I’m ready to let my hair shine (literally) and have my happiest and healthiest hair yet! With just a spring refresh of my hair care routine, and following these 5 tips, I’m on my way to some babe-worthy hair for the season!

Combat humidity with conditioner.
Spring is all about transitioning from dry winter weather to lots of warmth and sunshine. That’s the good news. The bad news is that springtime weather can also cause humidity, which wreaks havoc on all hair types. Fine, thick, straight or curly, the same is true, so as the temperatures rise, you need to re-think your conditioning products.

During winter months, we tend to use products that add moisture to your hair, so it’s now time to say goodbye to those heavy conditioners, because the best spring hair care products are designed for normal hair instead. This conditioner will give your hair just enough moisture instead of too much, and will reduce the likelihood of your hair going frizzy.

Head to the salon for a trim.
My biggest tip for healthier hair in general is to visit the salon for a regular trim and some TLC. I firmly believe that my hair is only growing and getting healthier is because I have been visiting my friends at Sassoon often. As spring arrives and the weather seriously warms up, it’s important to schedule an appointment with your hairstylist as soon as possible. Why? Winter weather is tough on your locks. You most likely need to have dead or dry ends cut off, but if you’re like me and freak out at the thought of cutting hair, don’t worry – you don’t need to lose a ton of length to breathe new life into your hair. Just ask your stylist for a trim. It can help you say goodbye to split ends and leave you with beautiful, healthy hair.

If you’re looking for something more than a “trim”, opt for a blunt chop so you can enjoy a flirty do when it’s a hot summer day! Sassoon recently released the new SS18 Collection FORM, and it’s making me wish I could go for a dramatic chop because I don’t think I can wait until after I tie the knot!

Read product labels carefully to avoid frizz.
You read food labels when you go grocery shopping, so why do so many of us forget to read the ingredients on our hair care products? If you’re sick and tired of dealing with frizz, dryness or even oily hair this spring, take a closer look at labels to determine what is right for you.

The best way to keep your hair healthy and frizz-free is to look for a gel or a mousse that contains either polymers or copolymers. These ingredients coat your hair, making it less likely to get frizzy. Another way to ditch pesky, frizzy locks is by adding an anti-frizz serum to your post-shower routine. My tip is to ask your hairstylist what they recommend!

Make the most of spring hair accessories.
What girl doesn’t love accessories? Have fun with your hair this season by getting creative with some springtime hair accessories like scarves, hair ties and clips. There are so many to choose from! Plus, they’re a quick and easy way to give your hair a boost of playfulness – and amp up your style. Accessories like a woven headband, clip-in flowers or bows and sparkly bobby pins can totally change up your hairstyle. The next time you’re running behind schedule, opt for a quick fix with a hair accessory.

Lighten up your color.
Sunny weather is the perfect excuse to lighten up! One way to embrace the sunshine is to ask your colourist for some highlights. Light brown or blonde can perfectly compliment your natural color. By going a couple of shades lighter, you can revamp your style and look springtime ready. You may want to stick to regular highlights, change your color entirely, or try a soft balayage style. If you do decide to lighten up your color, keep your hair healthy with products that treat coloured hair to prevent breakage. Just recently, I visited Sassoon in Yorkville to see my colourist John for a little colour love. What I was looking for was soft sunkissed highlights to warm up my look, and I love it now. I am gradually building colour so I can keep things healthy, but still enjoy the lighter locks as the summer arrives. I’m also on the long road to a wedding, so my goal is to have the healthiest hair possible!

Healthy spring hair is possible. With a few simple changes and a bit of creativity, you can have the gorgeous hair you’ve always dreamed of. Try out these tips and you’ll have stunning hair all season long.
